Dow’s journey in Romania began over 50 years ago, serving the market via foreign trade agencies. The first official Dow commercial office in Bucharest opened in 1990. Hence, Dow Romania has an excellent understanding of the local markets combined with nearly 120 years’ experience of operating within a global organization – The Dow Chemical Company.
From the commercial office in Bucharest, the company offers a variety of performance and base plastics and chemicals for a wide range of downstream industries including agriculture, building and construction, packaging and specialty plastics, polyurethanes, coatings, automotive, water treatment as well as oil and gas.
Today, Romania is a growing country for Dow in the emerging Central European Region.
Working with the Industry and the Community
Dow Romania is an important player in the industry. In 2013 the company co-founded the Romanian Chemical Producers and Distributors Association (APDCR) with Dow’s Country Manager Claudiu Tuncu serving as its first president. The association represents the chemical industry and additionally strives to leverage knowledge and best practices. Dow is also a member of AmCham Romania, a leading business organization representing international and local companies.
Doing business does not only mean maintaining relationships within the industry but also being a reliable corporate citizen: As a global company with a local presence, Dow is committed to supporting the communities in which the company operates. That is why Dow is active through various initiatives, supporting local education, entrepreneurship and community work.
A good example is Dow’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity in Romania, which started in 2015. This non-profit initiative seeks to eliminate poor housing by building and restoring homes for low-income families as well as vulnerable groups. Together, both organizations have built decent, comfortable, affordable homes and changed lives all over the world, from New Zealand to Romania. The latest project in Romania was the construction of two multi-family buildings in Ploiesti.
