INSTA-STIK™ FLEX + is a moisture-curing one-component polyurethane adhesive system, which is used in the area of component joints. It contains an environmentally friendly propellant which complies with the EU regulations prohibiting the use of CFC and HCFC-containing propellants.

INSTA-STIK™ FLEX + is a flexible adhesive system for the permanent airtight assembly of building elements such as windows and doors. Through the use of INSTA-STIK™ FLEX +, EnEV's requirement for a permanent air-tightness of the structural joints is met. It is easy to use, offers high insulation performance and good acoustic protection. The precise joint filling, which is achieved by means of a specially developed multi-function nozzle, as well as the high flexibility, make this product a highly effective and long-lasting solution.

Due to the low expansion pressure of INSTA-STIK™ FLEX + the distortion of components is avoided during installation. The fully reacted product can permanently absorb expansion and compression movements of at least 2 mm, which usually result from changing mechanical stresses in the area of the window connection.

Dow thermal insulation solutions for Inverted roofs
Passive houses require intelligent heat insulation systems, which ultimately make heating unnecessary, counteracting resource shortages.

Dow is playing its part with a passive house system which has been certified by the Passivhaus Institut Darmstadt as a "passive house suitable component" for reduction of thermal bridges.

Utilizing the outstanding properties of Dow extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation materials FLOORMATE™ 500-AP and
FLOORMATE™ 700-AP, the system encompasses design solutions for components which come into contact with the ground: perimeter insulation and load-bearing thermal insulation under foundation slabs – and even includes multi-layer installation.

In addition, the system makes use of high-performance XENERGY™ SLP insulation, which not only offers the proven characteristics of XPS - such as high mechanical strength and moisture resistance - but adds a 20% increase in insulation performance compared to conventional XPS insulation thanks to infra-red blocking particles which scatter and reflect heat radiation within the foam board.

Even with thin insulation layers of just 160mm, thermal efficiency targets in ground-contact areas can be reached, helped to meet strict passive house standards.

Dow Building Materials
The advantages of an inverted roof lie in the "inverted" design: the waterproofing seal is laid directly on the load-bearing structure, which is then followed by ROOFMATE™ or XENERGY™ extruded polystyrene (XPS) thermal insulation.

Thanks to their closed, homogenous cell structure, ROOFMATE™ and XENERGY ™ insulation boards are moisture-resistant and with high mechanical strength: in addition to the thermal insulation properties, such materials therefore protect the underlying waterproofing layer against mechanical damage and freeze-thaw cycles.

Practical investigations on inverted roofs installed with ROOFMATE™ insulation have shown that the thermal and mechanical values of the XPS material are retained, even after 30 years.

Now, the German Institute for Building Technology has approved two-layered installation for green inverted roofs using ROOFMATE™ and XENERGY™ materials: Dow Germany has received the "General Building Inspection Approval" for its XPS insulation panels ROOFMATE ™ SL-AP and XENERGY ™ SLP for green roofing systems in combination with its water-flow reducing layer, ROOFMATE ™ MK.

Precipitation is discharged above the ROOFMATE ™ MK separation layer, meaning that any heat loss that caused by rainwater below this layer is so insignificantly low so that the delta U surcharge for green inverted roofs is not required.

Advanced thermal insulation with  XENERGY™ Extruded Polystyrene Foam
XENERGY™ insulation from Dow has won the backing of The German Society for Sustainable Building (DGNB), which enables building designers to make informed choices about the materials they use according to environmental criteria.

XENERGY™ combines the proven features of XPS - durability, reliability and strength – with improved insulation performance of up to 20% thanks to infra-red blocking particles which scatter and reflect heat radiation within the foam board. The improved λ performance means that increasing demands for thermal efficiency can be met with thinner boards, meaning less materials need to be produced to meet the same insulation aims.

It all combines to support resource-efficient construction methods, improving sustainability of building: and as the foam is also CO2-blown, XENERGY™ insulation can be used in DGNB certified buildings.

DGNB acts as a useful navigator for specifiers, going beyond technical data and offering detailed information on sustainability and environmental impact of building products - such as calculation of life cycle costs, energy requirements or emissions from the product’s ingredients. Achieving a DGNB label for XENERGY™ gives a clear indication to builders, planners, specifiers and, of course, DGNB Auditors, that data is immediately available for building certification.

More than fifty years of proven performance
Durability and proven performance is key in façade bonding applications. Some standards in Europe refer to 25 years lifetime of a façade. However, the reality can be much more than that.

Under normal conditions, the expected lifetime of Dow Corning silicones in a structural glazing application is more than 50 years. This has recently been proven as part of a sponsored German Research Project and through a recent study by the ift-Rosenheim Institute.

Dow Corning has over 45 years of expertise in structural glazing, with their oldest structural glazing project constructed in 1964 and still functioning according to its intended performance.

Pure glass aesthetics with structurally glazed facades
Façades designed with more glass and less frame must still adhere to the stringent performance demands of high wind and hurricane loads, energy-efficiency, acoustical and safety requirements.

Next-generation Dow Corning® 3363 Silicone Insulating Glass Sealant has been engineered to offer outstanding strength (approximately 50% higher than conventional insulating glass sealants), enabling smaller yet stronger jointing in tall building design.

It is suitable for large element sizes in high wind environments, hurricane glazing, high impact loads such as bomb blast and insulating glass used as cold-bent glass.

Crystal clear design connecting glass

Dow Corning has introduced a breakthrough technology which has been tailored to improve the aesthetics and energy performance of point fixed glazing and address durability issues. Combining design and sustainability in a totally new way, Dow Corning® Transparent Structural Silicone Adhesive (TSSA) makes point-fixed glazing possible without penetrating the insulating glass, coloured glass surface or functional coating façade skin by the mechanical structure. This significantly reduces thermal bridges by leaving the gas-filled insulating glass cavity unbreached and does not weaken the thermal efficiency of the insulating glass.

This gives a totally new dimension in design freedom and increases the durability of the glass façade. Dow Corning also provides crystal clear silicone laminates for interior glass connection (for example, glass stairs, decorative glasses), which is named Dow Corning® Transparent Structural Silicone Laminate (TSSL).

More recently, Dow Corning has launched Dow Corning® 2400 Silicone Assembly Sealant for exterior and interior Assembly and Bonding. This new optically clear, hot melt technology for glass-glass and glass-metal connections can be used in residential and commercial assembly such as structural glass bonding, crystal clear IG edge and weather sealing.
